Services

The Isle of Wight has a range of different providers of sexual health services. Different providers have a different range of sexual health services, and most providers have a 'basic' and 'enhanced' level of service depending on the specific service.

Below is an overview of the types of services that are available on the Island. If you want information on what services are available at specific locations (e.g. XX surgery) then please visit the Where To Get Help page.

Training for professionals and schools see link

Pharmacies (30 across the Island):

  1. At a minimum, pharmacies offer chlamydia treatment and condom distribution available to any Isle of Wight resident
  2. Some pharmacies have a number of specific enhancements: EHC (commonly known as the morning after pill), chlamydia treatment and HIV testing

 General Practices (17 standard surgeries ):

  1. At a minimum, General Practices off a range of sexual health services available for patients registered with a surgery
  2. Some General Practices also offer specific enhanced contraceptive services that are available to non registered patients.

U25 Sexual Health Clinics

  1. A range of sexual health services delivered by a sexual health trained nurse, available to any Isle of Wight resident and their partner(s). Theses are located in Newport, Ryde, Sandown and Ventnor

A comprehensive sexual health service, offering the full range of sexual health interventions and advice

Outreach (operating out of the Sexual Health Service):

  • Sexual health outreach for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) support. Referrals can be made by professionals or personally. Contact Karl on 07917234992
  • Enhanced - Dedicated 1:1 support for vulnerable young people under 25. Referrals can be made by professionals, family, friends or directly from the young person. Contact Linda on 07789 876 998
  • Mental Health Outreach - regular drop in clinics at Woodlands and Sevenacres. Contact Steph 01983 534571.
  • Prison Inreach - regular clinics at HMP IOW. Contact iowsexualhealth@nhs.net
  • Regular school visits (see 'training' link).

Pregnancy Advisory Service: (part of the Sexual Health Service - 01983 534202)

Advice and support for pregnant women. For those wanting terminations, these can either be performed locally if up to 13 weeks gestation. Fax referral from GP's on  01983 821363

British Pregnancy Advisory Service (BPAS)

For patients wanting a termination over 13 weeks gestation, advice and support is available from BPAS, a mainland provider. GPs can refer directly to this provider by ringing 08457 30 40 30. Patients can also refer themselves directly to this service, even if under 13 weeks gestation.

Psychosexual Counselling 

Via GP or nurse referral to Julia Lloyd, Office Administrator, Sexual Health Service, St Mary's Hospital, Newport. PO30 5TG.

Psychosexual Counselling Clinics are held twice a month here at SHS and in East Cowes.

Vasectomy Clinics

Via GP referral through Choose & Book or by paper referral if preferred to Marie Stopes International, Zeta House, Axis 4/5, Woodlands, Bradley Stoke, Bristol, BS32 4JT.

The vasectomy clinics are held here in SHS once a month.
